[ despite all the years and distance in between, it's difficult for him not to reflect on times past. sylus could have just as easily blamed it on the way in which she cursed his soul once upon a time, but that just felt like an easy excuse. it felt like evading the obvious truth that they have simply always belonged together. he could come up with any number of metaphors— flowers belonging to the same soil, kindred spirits that have inevitably been lost to time and whatever else lay in between such conventions...
but, as well as he could articulate these points in his mind, it sometimes became marginally more difficult to put to actual words. instead, he spoke through actions. of time spent together, or in this case, the way in which he pitches idea after idea. perhaps, this message finds its way to fatima after a particular grueling day at work. ]
I heard from Mephisto that Josie missed him.
He thought it was about time he gave him his daily enrichment.
[ if if mephisto that thought that, or is this just a convenient way for sylus to say he missed her?
he'd like to think he made himself obvious, even if they played this game of cat and mouse. ]
[ Hunting Wanderers is always thankless work. She doesn't think so because the benefits are lacking or anything like that, but rather, her displeasure at the end of every day is because the damned Wanderers are just neverending. It always feels like her work is never done.
But there are moments it's easy to let her workday concerns melt away. Moments like staring at a hot bubble bath in anticipation of how nice it'll feel to sink into the water and forget the universe. Or, when her phone pings and the oh so distracting text keeping her from that bath is from Sylus.
She snickers to herself both from the mental image of the clash of cat and crow and from Sylus' misdirection. ]
Phi-phi keeps forgetting Josie can fly. I thought crows were supposed to be incredibly smart?
[ Mentally, she apologizes to Mephisto for the nickname and for the jab. ]
[ her response does elicit the tiniest hint of a smile as his eyes sweep over her text. it isn't exactly a response to his feelings, no, but he supposed they simply both be dishonest together. dishonest may have been a stretch, but he doesn't dislike the notion of them both putting on this front.
at least, it's a sign of change between them. compared to their first meeting, this was oddly pleasant. he wonders if she even really remembers their initial encounter at all, but decides not to delve into it more than he has to. ]
Phiphi? is that what were calling him now?
Crows are. Thats why they know when they smell a challenge. or see something especially shiny they want to keep their eyes on. [ this may not entirely be about mephisto or josie anymore. then again, was it ever? ]
[ While she tends to favor being direct, Fatima has picked up a fondness for his games. Sylus' tendency to speak with a barrier between what words he uses and what he means exasperated her so much before. Now, though? It's pretty cute. He always seems so composed when his inner mood is in shambles. ]
It's what I call him. It's cute. But if you want to see me, you know you don't need an excuse, right?
My only advice would be to hurry. My bubble bath is getting cold.
[ Nevermind that she's already slipped into the water while texting him. She can always add more hot water. ]
If I didnt know better I would say youve both gotten pretty close.
It makes me wonder if the same could be said for his owner.
[ she may have just confirmed he didn't need all this pretense, and yet it doesn't stop him from continuing. only, he does seem to grip his device a little tighter between his fingers at her response. ]
Can I take that as an invitation?
While theres no speed limits in the N109 zone the same cant be said about linkon. [ as if that will stop him from making it there on time...
maybe it's obvious that he's already on the way, because between the extra delay of time, he eventually texts back. ] Is that all my body is worth to you? [ in spite saying that, he's already at her door. ]

Oh well, if you're busy I understand. I'll have to repaint my toenails by myself I guess 😔
